STEM in the classroom
It is easier than you think to provide STEM
Begin with teaching students how to question and encourage them to find answers.
Questions such as Why do leaves fall off trees or How do the clock hands keep spinning lead to discovery of big ideas.
Central to the question and answer concept is teaching students how to research. It is not enough to say "Great question, research it and present your findings". We need to teach students how to find information, how to dissect it and how to mesh it all together to present a credible and valid response.
Work on the scientific process: make predictions, conduct experiments, analyse date and make conclusions.
Get outside: Nature based pedagogy is rich in authentic learning opportunities that promote a personal, social and environmental emphasis. Nature is a very powerful teacher; there is no such thing as poor weather, just poor clothing and poor planning.
