Differentiating Instruction

Approaches to differentiating instruction may include:

-
scaffolding student learning with additional support
-
modelling skills
-
explicit instruction and questioning students on the instructions to ensure understanding
-
identifying key vocabulary
-
using personal and situational interests to increase motivation
-
providing opportunities for the students to verbalise thinking
-
providing feedback
-
addressing misconceptions
-
allowing alternative representations of learning
-
providing opportunities for the student to work at a faster pace (acceleration, compacting), at greater breadth (enrichment) and in more depth (extension)
-
ongoing formative assessment that details exactly what students are doing well and what they need to do next to improve.
