A Curriculum that Meets Needs

MEETING THE NEEDS OF 21ST CENTURY LEARNERS

In the mid 1990’s an educational revolution took place within Australia.  The Melbourne Declaration on Educational Goals for Young Australians was created in consultation with state educational bodies.  The declaration proposed that Australian schooling promote equity and excellence, and that all young Australians become successful learners, confident and creative individuals, and active and informed citizens.

A national curriculum that would outline the essential skills, knowledge, and capabilities of young Australians was created by the Australian Curriculum, Assessment and Reporting Authority (ACARA).

The curriculum sets national standards for students in the 21st century. Every state implements the Australian Curriculum in their own way.
